Power switch: This switch immediately disconnects battery power from the device. It is used to save battery during shipping because the coop door may float at sea for months before arriving in the United States. If the battery is not disconnected, it may be fully drained by the time the customer receives the product. Toggle right is ON; toggle left is OFF.

Charge port: The device can run without an external power bank or solar panel for up to 15 days, long enough to navigate most bad weather. For reliable long-term power, connect a solar panel to keep the battery charged. The port is USB Type-C and supports solar panels up to 20 W. If you are at a low altitude or have limited daylight hours, you can replace the solar panel and plug it into this port.

Antenna: This device uses Wi-Fi technology to give the coop door access to the internet. With wireless technology, connectivity is everything: a stronger signal helps open and close commands run more smoothly and also saves power. The device Wi-Fi strength is shown on the device card (what is device card? (related FAQ: device-card)), and we strongly recommend keeping the signal at two bars or higher.

Charge indicator: When the power switch is ON and you plug in the adapter, this red LED turns on to show that the device is charging. Plugging in a solar panel will not always turn on the LED because the light has a minimum voltage requirement. At night or early in the morning, sunlight may not be strong enough to produce enough output, so the LED may stay off.

Wi-Fi indicator: This blue LED shows Wi-Fi connectivity. When the power switch is OFF, or when the device is sleeping (why does the device need to sleep? (related FAQ: device-sleep)), the LED is off. When it stays solid blue, the coop door has internet access. When the product arrives at your house for the first time, it does not have internet access yet. Press and hold the rightmost gear button on the panel until the Wi-Fi indicator flashes quickly, about once per second. This means it is ready to pair with your phone and receive the Wi-Fi name and password. Besides solid blue and quick flashing, there is also a slow flashing mode, about once every two seconds. Slow flashing means the coop door has a saved Wi-Fi name and password but cannot reach the internet. This can happen if you changed the router password, replaced the router, or the network service is unavailable.

Signal indicator: When you tap the green open-door button, the command signal is routed through the internet, reaches your router, and finally arrives at the coop door. When the command reaches the door device, this green LED flashes quickly once to show that a signal has arrived. Many app commands interact with the coop door; every command that reaches the device will make the signal indicator flash.

Open door button: Press this button to raise the coop door. Make sure the power switch is ON and the battery is not empty. Sometimes, when the device is sleeping (why does the device need to sleep? (related FAQ: device-sleep)), you may need to press twice: once to wake the device and once to raise the door.

Close door button: Press this button to lower the coop door. Make sure the power switch is ON and the battery is not empty. Sometimes, when the device is sleeping (why does the device need to sleep? (related FAQ: device-sleep)), you may need to press twice: once to wake the device and once to lower the door.

Reset button: Press this button only when you receive the coop door for the first time and want to pair it with your phone, or when you changed the router password and the coop door can no longer connect to the internet. In that case, press and hold this button until the blue Wi-Fi indicator flashes quickly. Then tap the plus icon on the Home page of the JJ Chicken App and follow the instructions to finish pairing and binding.
